Neira Gordon

My name is Neira Gordon who, together with my husband Andrew, are the proud owners of Scentennials. We will both use this blog to keep you up to date on new products, tips on how to use the product, events we will be attending, new trends in the world of scents and much more. We also hope to share with you information on our backgrounds, our hobbies and anything else we feel you would like to know.

Firstly, a little information on our company Scentennials. Established in 1989 we are the leading supplier of scented drawer liners and linen splash. Proudly manufactured in the USA, we use only the best oils and paper to create a quality product that is sold in Gift Stores worldwide.

We are located in the beautiful town of Woodland Park in Colorado. Situated 8,500 above sea level in the Rocky Mountains, the town looks onto the majestic mountain Pikes Peak otherwise know as America's Mountain. We relocated our business here because that is where we choose to live - a small town with over 360 days of sunshine a year and 4 defined seasons. We are headquartered here with our manufacturing done in California.

A little about me! I am from Venezuela moving to the USA in 1999. I first lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for 15 years, then moved to Houston, Texas for 2 years before arriving in Colorado. Houston is where I met my husband Andrew. He is originally from Scotland. My hobbies are running [ran my first Marathon last year], cooking [I can share some great Venezuelan food], exploring new ideas for Scentennials, music, movies. And last but not least - looking out from our deck to Pikes Peak. I never tire of that view!! Over future blogs I will share more about interests with you.

I am really excited to be able to make our company website more interactive by using this blog. Your comments will inspire me for future posts.

I will leave you for tonight. We are under a foot of snow just now. It is time to snuggle up with some hot chocolate in front of the fire.

Talk to you soon.

LavenderThere are many ways to achieve wellness. Did you know that aromatherapy can lower your blood pressure, sharpen your mind, and improve your outlook on life?

One of the most widely used scents in aromatherapy comes from Lavender. Researchers found that Lavender increased slow-wave sleep, the very deep slumber in which the heartbeat slows and muscles relax. During this phase, the brain is thought to organize memory, as well.

In a recent Bedroom Poll by the National Sleep Foundation, more than three fourths of people said they are more excited to go to bed when the sheets have a fresh scent, and roughly three quarters of people say they get a more comfortable night's sleep on sheets with fresh scent.

Our Lavender Scented Spray is the perfect wellness companion for the home. Spray under your pillow just before bedtime, and sleep soundly, in wonderfully smelling crispy fresh sheets! See what other great scents we offer that can help bring wellness to your home at our Scentennials website.

When planning your Easter egg hunt, remember that it is more than a game, it is an adventure. In order to host an awesome event, plan age-appropriate adventures. For example, if toddlers will be searching for the eggs, place the items in highly visible locations. For children from 4 to 7 years old, place the eggs in locations that are obvious hiding spots. Children older than the age of 7 years old will appreciate a challenge. Examples include obscure hiding places, hunting eggs by hopping on one foot, having a three-legged race with a partner, such as a parent, and a wider variety of prizes. You may have older participants seek out eggs of a certain color, fill eggs with jigsaw pieces to put together a puzzle, or include a treasure map that allows all participants to search for the “ultimate treasure”, such as a gold egg or a basket full of eggs with lots of prizes. All that attend your event are sure to leave excited and with memories that may be shared for many years to come!

Morning Power Breakfast!

Thursday, May 26, 2016 11:58:00 AM America/Denver

This incredibly simple recipe for Strawberries and Cream is a match made in heaven, and now you can enjoy this combo in your oatmeal in 15 minutes or less. Oatmeal is loaded with fiber, gluten free, vitamins and minerals to keep your energized and satisfied all morning long. One of my favorite breakfeast.

 Ingredients: Serves 1

1/2 cup rolled oats [Certified gluten-free if necessary]

1/2 cup of chopped strawberries

1 tablespoon chia seeds

1 medium banana, mashed [can be added as an extra ingredient]

1 teaspoon vanilla extract [can be added as an extra ingredient]

1 cup unsweetened almonf milk

2 tablespoons maple syrup [can be substituted with coconut sugar]

Additional Substitutions:

No unsweetened almond milk? Replace with coconut milk, or any milk of preference.

No Strawberries? Replace with berries, or chopped apples.

Place the chia seeds in a bowl and set aside for later.

Use a medium saucepan to mix the milk, rolled oats, vanilla extract and banana at medium heat. As the strawberries begin to soften, mash them to your desired size-consistency. Turn to medium-high heat, and bring to a boil. Then, reduce heat back to medium, and let cook until thick and creamy [about 5 minutes], stirring often, mix in maple syrup or coconut sugar and remove from heat.

Add ingredients into your chia bowl, stir well, and serve inmediately.

Grab your freshly brewed coffe and enjoy!

How do youlike to start your day? Did you try our recipe? Please give us your feedback below.

Hello everyone, it is my great pleasure to introduce you all to our family pet, Jet. Jet was puppy number four of a litter of five born in our home. My daughter, Arianne, adopted Jet as her furry son and our household has never been the same since!

A family dog, like Jet, can teach kindness and compassion, which are important traits to instill in our children and family. Pets can teach children valuable traits and life skills through positive interactions. These interactions may include responsibility for feeding, walking, training and grooming.

Our furry 4-legged family members can be a comfort when we are most in need of unconditional interaction with another living being. According to Vanderbilt University, dogs can decrease levels of loneliness and stress, while providing us with a sense of purpose as they require the same level of care and attention. More importantly, our pets can motivate us to be more active and social. Jet loves play dates at the park, and hikes in the mountains with my daughter, Arianne. I have taken Jet with me on morning walks/jogs on several occasions. Our personal record together is 7 miles! Jet, however, can be a bit feisty and likes to bark at every other dog he encounters on our morning exercise runs.

Jet is extremely playful, very affectionate, and kind. He has brought a lot of joy and happiness to our hearts individually and our family over the years. We are so grateful for the memories and the time we have been fortunate enough to share with Jet.

Share your favorite moments and pictures with your family pet below.

She was loved and will be greatly missed.

The greatest pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him, and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself, too.” Samuel Butler

The Essentials: Transforming your Powder Room for the Happier Guest.

Tuesday, May 31, 2016 3:11:36 PM America/Denver

Nothing stresses me out more than a powder room that’s unorganized and unprepared for its guest. Here are some key things your loo must have to avoid the side-eye glare from guests during the holidays — and beyond.

My first beef? You guessed it: a lack of good old-fashioned toilet paper. I mean, you know the lavatory is going to get some major mileage during the holidays, and yet there’s only one square left on the roll? You have to be kidding me, right?

Tip: Do a quick spot check the morning you’re expecting guest to make sure the room is well stocked and most importantly, cleaned!

Here is an inexpensive Toilet Paper Stand Plus an Oil-Rubbed Bronze from Bed Bath & Beyond.

You'll have some extremely grateful guest, I promise you.

The second order of business after attending the lovely powder room is the hand washing. Believe me, it would be a more pleasant experience with a delicately picked out soap and lotion dispenser. My personal preference is a white set ceramic to match any of the rooms in the house. The high altitude lifestyle of 8,500 ft. requires us to use lotion in BULK.

Tip: Pick up a few bottles of liquid soap from Bath & Body works and pour them into a fancy soap dispenser. Stock on them when they go on sale!

What’s better and more decorative than a few hand towels? Consider placing a couple in a cute basket. Modern hand-woven wicker from bed bath & beyond is ideal if the space is provided.

You turn the sink off and start looking around the room with your hands held high and see a damp towel hanging, you shriek! One little hand towel is not enough, especially if you weren’t the first 5 to attend the powder room.

Now, you know a few people will spend some extra time handling some additional business.  Some might enjoy flipping through a magazine, but I decided that it was the best place for a motivational quote. I have created my own quote for my dearest guest. I decided to do one after seeing one in my friend’s powder room, so why not do one myself? My guests love it!

What could possibly be a perfect match for the inspirational quote on the wall you ask? Scentennials Positive Thoughts drawer liners are the ideal match for the ambiance of the powder room.  Not only will it provide your guest with motivational quotes but it will also fill the room with peach, berry, mandarin accents with vanilla and soft wood scents that would surround the room. Believe me, your guest will feel as if they just left the spa room.

Now, wastebaskets (hand-woven wicker from Bed Bath & Beyond) are not the sexiest of all decorative elements to place in a bathroom, but it is essential for us ladies.

Bonus Points: If you want to win the award for powder room of the century, provide emergency supplies for women who are having their lady time.

Tips: it’s also important to have the essential necessities: Brush, Cotton, Q-tip, etc. Am I missing some items?

Accents: I found this beautiful rug at Marshall’s (100% JUTE) from Evelyn Collection That matches perfectly with the wastebaskets and small basket.

It’s time for the sheep talk. I found these sheep in a small town (Kilmacolm) in Scotland. I knew exactly where to place them when I laid my eyes on them! It adds a bit of flair to the powder room, don’t you think? They’re too cute to resist.

Now please, go forth and be sure that all of these items are at hand for your guests. I assure you that this will make a happy bunch.

So, tell us. Did I miss any items? What are your pet peeves and personal favorite must haves?

I would love to know so please share.

I love cooking, but after a long day at work, sometimes an elaborate meal is just too complicated and I love quick but yummy recepies like his Sea Bass recipe that is so easy to whip up in no time.

I highly recommend you try this one. The original recipe came from SparkRecipes and this is my simplified version of it.

Ingredients: Servings 2

1 Lb Sea bass [Cleaned and Scaled]

3 Garlic cloves, minced or crushed

1 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

1 Tablespoon fresh parsley leaves

Fresh coarse ground black pepper, to taste

1 teaspoon salt Lemon wedges

1/3 white wine vinegar [ Optional] or 1/3 cup white [Optional]

Preheat oven to 450F

In a cup, mix garlic, olive oil, salt, and black pepper.

Place fish in a shallow glass or ceramic baking dish.

Rub fish with oil mixture.

Bake fish, uncovered, for 15 minute; then sprinkle with parsley and pour wine - optional - and continue to bake for 5 minutes [or until the thickest part of the fish flakes easily] and garnish with lemon wedges.

Notes: You can serve as a meal or on a shareable platter. All ingredients were placed in the oven at the same temperature, with olive oil and pepper as per your own personal preference.

I decided to display pictures of my family in this spot.

Displaying art work is a great option for filling an empty corner. It adds a lot of visual interest and provides a focal point without taking up any floor space.

These vertical frames continue the linear look of the space and help to visually break it up a bit.

There are a lot of other options that you can consider – oversize lamps, small tables, dress forms,  corner cabinets – but whatever you choose, make sure that it coordinates with the rest of your decor so that it doesn’t look like an afterthought, even if it was!

A bench

This bench fits any corner perfectly. My entire family has used it at some time or another to read and snuggle up with the warm blankets that I use to fill the bench due to its size. It’s a perfect get away spot in the house during the long winter months.

I’ve also added Our Original Lavender Scented Drawer Liners to the bench. Why Lavender? Lavender is the perfect scent to match the relaxing vibe of the activities and the view that the bench provides for my loving family. Reading your favorite story or listening to music under a cozy blanket while looking out at Pikes Peak National Park and catching the scent of Scentennials Original Lavender will certainly set the mood just right.

The smell of lavender not only helps you relax by calming anxiety and supporting your immune system, but it also helps you look and feel great about yourself. What a great day to start your morning! I often sneak over with my morning coffee to admire my view, feel grateful, and mentally prepare myself for my day.

Let’s talk about the Cushion. It is a custom window seat that is completely to my taste. Luckily, I was able to use this website:

The yellow cushions are from Bed, Bath and Beyond. I can’t help myself to anything that’s yellow, it’s my favorite color!

The motivational pillow is from Wayfair I can’t resist a good motivational quote.

I also gave it my own little touch with this Wagon Wheel from an Antique Shop, isn’t darling?
